G2G Fall Colours Ride

Sunday October 22, 2017

“You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life”

Dame Cicily Saunders  [1918-2005]
Nurse, physician, writer and founder of the hospice movement.

Participate with us in the inaugural G2G Fall Colours Ride in support of the AMGH Hospital and Hospice services in Huron County.

The Ride is a fundraiser for Palliative Care Services in Huron County.  The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Palliative Care Program and the Huron Residential Hospice will share Eighty (80)% of funds raised.  The remaining funds will be used by the G2G Committee to enhance aspects of the rail trail in Huron County.

The Ride is hosted by the Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail Committee, and its partners the Menesetung Bridge Association and the Maitland Trail Association. Participants pay a registration fee and make a fundraising commitment.

The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Foundation is coordinating the registration and fundraising.

Online registration and online donations are encouraged.

Individual Rider - Registration Fee

Adult                         $40.00

18 or younger           $30.00

When you register, you will have our support to help you reach your targets

Ride as a Team / 4-6 team members

It can be more fun to train together and raise funds as a team.  A team will have four to six members.  Join with friends, or family, or form a corporate team.  Please note, each team member is required to raise the minimum fundraising target to have standing in The Ride. Team members can support each other to reach their goals and to do more than they might on their own.  Be a team captain and encourage your team members to find creative fundraising ideas, to motivate each other, and to recruit others to ride.

PLEASE NOTE:  Participants who register after Wednesday October 18, 2017 may not be guaranteed an event t-shirt or lunch, due to ordering deadlines.  Organizers will do their best to accommodate.

Each participant’s goal is to raise $250 for the G2G Fall Colours Ride in support of the Hospital and Hospice.  Use your creativity and commitment to raise this amount and more.  The key is to get your funding support commitments started now!

Each participant must reach a minimum target to attain standing in the Ride and be eligible for prizes and draws.  This minimum target is for fundraising and does not include the participant's registration fee.

18 years and under  $50
9 years and over  $100

Team (4-6 members) same as above, for each team member

  • Online donations are encouraged.
  • Donations $25 or more are eligible for a charitable receipt.

If you are not accustomed to riding longer distances, a few practice runs on the G2G trail might be in order.
This could also help you choose your distance  [Yellow, Orange or Red] on ride day.

Bicycles - Hybrid or mountain bikes are recommended; narrow-tired road bikes are probably not suitable. Although the trail is relatively smooth, it is not paved and there can be rough or soft spots.

Helmets -
Helmets are strongly recommended and will be mandatory for ages under 18.

Apparel -
Please wear your Fall colours and dress for the weather conditions.

Safety first! This is a ride, not a race.

  • Wear a helmet.
  • Ride in control.  Ride in a straight line, avoid weaving.
  • Keep to the right.
  • Call out “on your left” when passing.
  • Call out “stopping” or “slowing”.
  • The trail crosses several roads, stop and look both ways.
  • Please ride single file in your group.
  • There may be pedestrians on the bridges, please walk your bike in these situations.

There will be a rest station at the McGaw station site (Kilometer 9) with limited first aid and washroom facilities.
Emergency bicycle repair services will be available for minor repairs.
Transport can be arranged if you are unable to complete the Ride.

A message from the G2G Rail Trail Committee

The Guelph to Goderich Rail Trail is a 127 km train right of way abandoned in 1988 and currently under redevelopment as a public recreational trail for non-motorized use.  Our committee is pleased to participate in the organization and promotion of this fund raising event to benefit palliative care services at AMGH and the new Huron Residential Hospice.

October 22 should be a great day to ride the trail, enjoy the fall colours, and raise money for palliative care and the further development of the trail.

A message from the AMGH Foundation

Alexandra Marine and General Hospital is committed to supporting families through every phase of life.  From the birth of a baby, to the last goodbye, our hospital cares for both the physical and mental well-being of our community.  Events like the G2G Fall Colours Ride help the AMGH Foundation support the needs of our community. Join us on October 22 for an enjoyable day in support of this important cause.

A message from Huron Residential Hospice

We are thrilled to have been chosen as one of the charities that will benefit from this event. Huron Residential Hospice is finally a reality, and for this reason your support is so important. Please join us for a great day of exercise while you participate in enhancing our facilities in beautiful Huron County on the G2G Trail.
